eShram was launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment under central Government of India on 26th August 2021.
It has sole purpose to provide welfare benefits and social security to the workers working in unorganised sectors.
By this, a worker can avail an insurance of Rs. 2 Lakh in case of accidental death or permeant disability and Rs. 1 Lakh in case of partial disability PLUS a pension of Rs. 3000 per month after crossing the age of 60 years.
And not just this, with eshram card you can avail all government support for any training purposes under Skill India, apprenticeship under NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme), get a job as well under National Career Service and many other benefits alike will be become easily accessible.
This covers workers of 400 different occupations under 30 broad sectors.
For this the Government has launched ‘e-Shram portal’ for the application and to make a comprehensive National Database of Unorganized Workers to deliver the benefits to them.

Benefits of e-Shram card
1. Get Rs. 2 lakh of insurance in case of accidental death or permanent disability and Rs. 1 lakh in case of partial disability of beneficiary

3. If you are resident citizen of Uttar Pradesh then under ‘Uttar Pradesh Unorganized Workers Social Security Board’ Maintenance Allowance Scheme you can also get an allowance of total Rs. 2000 in three instalments in your bank account. First instalment will be of Rs. 1000 and other two will be of Rs. 500
4. Access all Government scheme benefits with just one card
5. In case of death of eshram beneficiary the benefits will be given to his/her spouse
Eligibility Criteria for e-Shram card
- Person must be working under unorganised sector
- Having age between 16-59 years
- Worker should not be a tax payee
Who is unorganised worker?
A worker working in unorganised sector and who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO and is either a home based worker, self-employed or wage worker.
What is unorganised sector?
A working sector which comprises of working units or companies that are not covered under ESIC & EPFO and having less than 10 workers.

e-Shram card registration process – Apply for e-Shram Card Online
You can apply online for e-Shram card from e-Shram portal. You can do that by either yourself from home or by visiting nearest common service centre.
If you want to apply by yourself from home then now I am going to explain it step by step which will make it easy for you to do it yourself.
Steps:
1. Go to e-Shram portal – eshram.gov.in
2. Click on ‘REGISTER on eShram’
3. Enter Aadhar linked mobile number and captcha code and Answer ‘No’ for the question related to EPFO and ESIC
5. Click on ‘Send OTP’
6. In next page enter Aadhaar card number, enter OTP received on mobile number and click ‘Validate’
7. Now registration form will open asking to fill your personal details, address, educational qualifications, occupation and skills and Bank details
8. Once details are filled up then checkmark on self-declaration consent and click ‘Submit’
9. Now it will show you your e-Shram card with 14 digit UAN number
10. Now click on ‘Download’ on top right corner to download e-Shram card
You can also download eshram card later once registered.
How to Download Already Registered e-Shram Card?
There are two ways to download eshram card: 1) By Aadhaar card and 2) by UAN number
Download eShram card by Aadhaar card
1. Go to e-Shram portal: eshram.gov.in
2. Click on ‘Login’ nearby ‘Already Registered?’ and a new page will open
3. This will open a new page to enter Aadhaar linked mobile number by default
4. Now enter ‘Aadhaar linked mobile number’ and verify it by OTP.
5. Once verified you will be logged in to your eshram profile
6. Now click on ‘DOWNLOAD UAN CARD’
7. Now your eshram card will be displayed which you can download by clicking on ‘Download UAN Card’ on top right corner of screen.
Download eShram card by UAN number
1. Go to e-Shram portal: eshram.gov.in
2. Click on ‘Login’ nearby ‘Already Registered?’ and a new page will open
3. There in menu under ‘Already Registered’ click on ‘Login profile using UAN’
4. Enter UAN number, Date of Birth and Captcha code and click on ‘Generate OTP’ and enter the received OTP on your mobile
5. Once verified you will be logged in to your eshram profile
6. Now click on ‘DOWNLOAD UAN CARD’
7. Now your eshram card will be displayed which you can download by clicking on ‘Download UAN Card’ on top right corner of screen.
How to avail financial benefits from eShram card?
To avail Insurance benefits:
To avail insurance benefits you have to call on e-Shram Helpdesk No. 14434 to inform all the details.
They will then verify the details with related documents like death certificate of certificate of disability.
Once done the benefits will be released.
To avail Pension benefits:
Now once registered for e-Shram, pension benefits are given under ‘Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana’
These Pension benefits are voluntary and requires financial contribution from the beneficiary side and same matching contribution will be done by the Government of India.

e-Shram card Check Payment Status under Maintenance Allowance Scheme UP
Steps,
1. To check eshram card balance payment status go to UP Unorganized Workers Social Security Board labor department portal: https://upssb.in/Home.aspx
2. Click on ‘Maintenance Allowance Scheme’
3. Enter your mobile number and click on ‘Search‘
4. You will see status of payment to your eshram registered bank account.
